Happy Christmas
I would like to wish all the readers of my blog a very Happy Christmas.
Thinking about Christmas I created this picture, in it I wanted to show a nativity scene set in a cave used as a stable and a photo of a rough stone alcove in Colchester castle seemed to fit. The light at the top, from a concealed spotlamp, could be interpreted as being from the star that guided the shepherds.
Planetfall
Each year Weston-Super-Mare has a Sand Sculpture Exhibition where talented sand sculptors from around the world create amazing artworks purely from sand. If, like me originally, you thought sand is just sand then you’re wrong, the sand at Weston is of a special type that makes it perfect for creating sculptures out of sand.
Whitton Station
The railway line through what was later to become Whitton station was opened in 1848 by the Windsor, Staines and South Western Railway which in 1850 was absorbed into the London and South Western Railway which in turn was amalgamated into the Southern Railway in 1923.

How far should we go in explaining our photographs?
It’s one thing to caption a straightforward photo like “6023 King Edward II at Didcot Railway Centre” such a photograph is what it is,
